inav is essentially a fork of betaflight that focuses on adding autonomous drone functions rather than fpv racing features. this lets the software fly your drone to waypoints, or return home all on its own. this firmware supports most of the fpv racing flight controllers (that are much cheaper to buy than ardupilot boards). inav also supports both multi-rotors and fixed-wing aircraft.

finally bought and started building my first fpv drone. it was going well till i tried to hook my cc3d flight control board to my computer (windows10). attached is what i get when i connect it to librepilot or openpilot. the computer wont recognize board saying the device malfunctioned. also i never see any lit bars in the tx and rx bars at the lower right of the software. ive tried multiple versions of openpilot. anyone have any ideas is the cc3d controller bad thanks for any help anyone can give.

there are many discussions between px4 and ardupilot to compare which one is better. i will not discuss that here as these are all a matter of opinion. however, the key differentiation is with the software license. px4 uses bsd while ardupilot uses gpl. this makes px4 more attractive for commercial use since you dont need to make your modifications open source.

the brain run open source software based on the tau labs gcs, which is also used in the recently released tbs gemini. for experienced cc3d users it shouldnt be a big problem. its an openpilot fork so the gui and pidtuning is pretty much the same as the cc3d/revo.some cc3d users tried this flight controller and said flight performance is very similar.

i was involved in the openpilot community from the very beginning, and had to step away due to a family commitment. but even back then, this project was awesome and i’ve been very happy to see it grow.
the openpilot community is unique. it has a vibrant, enthusiastic, and friendly user base. the project features a thriving community, with people giving advice on everything from firmware programming and system design to hobby flying. the project is well-documented and frequently updated, with lots of tutorials and guides.
the firmware is also great. the development team is professional and responsive, and the openpilot community is the best in the business. there is an active community developing firmware and putting it on the hardware, and it’s all open source.
in my view, openpilot is the best flight controller board on the market. it’s simple, easy to use, and well supported. it’s fully open source, and the community is excellent. it’s the board i fly with. here’s my flying with openpilot page.
px4 is a community-driven open source project. there are many hardware options and even more software options. you can use one of the existing hardware projects, build your own, or even build one from scratch using pcb design tools. if you want to use one of the existing hardware projects, the px4 firmware is very easy to integrate with any autopilot.
the cleanflight project is a fork of the open source openpilot project, which means that everything cleanflight is based on can be found in openpilot. the cleanflight project has a different focus than the openpilot project, namely that it focuses on a low cost approach. this means that cleanflight is mainly targeted at hobbyist and the cost is substantially lower than that of the cc3d. the cleanflight firmware also includes configuration presets for different applications.
